Safety and support
Highly trained Expedition Leaders, satellite tracking, a 24/7 Operations Centre, round-the-clock medical support through Healix and a dedicated School Account Manager
Most school trips are measured by where students went. World Challenge expeditions are designed around what students gain from being there.
Picture a group of students somewhere unfamiliar, working out between themselves how the group gets to the next stop, what everyone eats tonight, what it all costs and who leads tomorrow. All with a highly trained Expedition Leader alongside them. That’s a World Challenge expedition.
Where they go is only part of it. We choose places that take students outside their comfort zone, and every expedition is designed so they take responsibility, work as a team and make decisions for themselves and for the people around them.
Find out why schools have been choosing World Challenge for 40 years.

Highly trained Expedition Leaders, satellite tracking, a 24/7 Operations Centre, round-the-clock medical support through Healix and a dedicated School Account Manager
Students come back from our school expeditions more confident, independent and responsible. Here’s the evidence.
Over 20 countries, chosen for what students will experience, learn and take on.
Everything teachers need, from first enquiry to the day students fly home.

Support around your group, from the first conversation to the flight home.
40 years of school expedition experience have shaped how every World Challenge trip is planned and supported. A lot of this work happens long before anyone flies.
Every expedition is designed to meet the requirements of BS 8848, the British Standard for organised ventures outside the UK, alongside our own established procedures. Your school has a named contact from the first conversation and a dedicated School Account Manager supporting you once your expedition is confirmed.
Once your group is away, a trained Expedition Leader travels with you, knowing when to step in and when to let young people work something out. Behind them are satellite tracking, support teams on the ground and our 24/7 Operations Centre, with medical advice available any hour through Healix, our medical partner.
So while students are encouraged to step up, schools are supported every step of the way.
Peace of mind for schools and parents.
We hold all of these accreditations. For schools, the Department of Education (DFE) recommends using a travel provider with the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge, and holding it means less risk assessment paperwork for you. For parents, the ABTA and ATOL logos mean every payment is protected.

Skills that matter long after their school expedition ends
Before they go, students prepare and train together as a team and are encouraged to raise some of the cost themselves. On the expedition, they take turns managing the day’s budget, planning and preparing meals and leading the group, with a trained Expedition Leader alongside them.
Taking that on builds what’s hard to teach in a classroom or at home: confidence, teamwork, responsibility and perspective. Students come back able to explain not just what they did, but what they learned about themselves – which is something they can draw on at university or college, in interviews and beyond.
In our latest Impact Report, 78% of students returned home more confident and 88% said they will challenge themselves to try new things at home.

Many World Challenge school expeditions work alongside a network of almost 100 community and conservation partners around the world.
Each one is chosen with local experts, so students take part in something genuinely useful – from protecting turtles in Malaysia to planting trees in Borneo and helping build water pipelines in Nepal.
“I think I have gained a part of myself I was too afraid to be.”
An expedition you can take to your senior leadership team with confidence. You’ll have experienced support from the first conversation, a named contact and a clear picture of what stays with the school.
World Challenge do the heavy lifting on planning, risk management, participant information and 24/7 operational support. For UK schools, we can also collect parent payments directly.
Travel as a teacher, not a tour manager, with plenty of time to watch your students surprise you.
Most young people come home more confident, more independent and with a stronger sense of what they’re capable of. Every World Challenge expedition is professionally managed and safety-led.
Your child’s group travels with a trained Expedition Leader whose focus is supporting the whole team. They know when to step in and when to give young people the space to work something out for themselves.
Each team carries a satellite tracker and more than one way to reach our 24/7 Operations Centre, with medical help available at any hour if needed. And that’s just part of the support behind every school group, so you can say yes with confidence.
This is your expedition, not a school trip you get taken on. You’ll find yourself somewhere unfamiliar and will be trusted with real decisions. These include managing money, helping plan the day, working out what your team needs and taking your turn to lead.
You’ll be challenged but will also have an experienced Expedition Leader and the wider World Challenge team behind you. You’ll come home with stories, memories, new friendships and a much better idea of what you’re capable of. You may even surprise yourself!
